PowerBook 180c -- Vertical White Column Lines

Just a little rant... I have to say, IMO, desoldering old capacitors is pain. After pulling the first one, I discovered a bit of electrolyte leakage underneath. Anyway, I removed all the caps and every one was leaking. Unfortunately, three of the pads lifted in the process. Thankfully, none...

The new display arrived and works well. It’s a new-in-box display from the 1990s and still has all of its original capacitors. They aren’t visibly leaking yet, but the display is ghosting horizontally like mad. I’ve already ordered a set of tantalum caps, so I’ll post another update once...

I may have misunderstood what you were looking to print/design. Are you needing a better case or sliding-door?

Thanks, but my model still needs a considerable amount of work before it’s ready to be released. This version, while fairly accurate, was really just made as a visual reference for our discussion. Before I’d consider it “print ready,” it needs to be printed, inspected, adjusted, and reworked as...

I use a combination of Illustrator and Fusion. Here's a rough model of the door. If you're printing it with FDM, I'd recommend splitting the cover in half and then gluing the two pieces together like this. It should make the print a lot cleaner and easier to manage.

Interesting, how do you mean? Are you referring to the exterior and interior details? I’ve been 3D modeling for over a decade. If you’d like, I’d be happy to take a look at the model and see if there’s anything I can help with. Absolutely no pressure; I just enjoy this kind of stuff and...

Dang, that's some serious battery-life! Regarding the CCFL, I've looked, but not much beyond that. It looks promising.

Yeah, opening them is definitely a pain. As I'm sure you know, the top and bottom halves are sonic-welded together, so there really isn’t any way to just pop them apart cleanly. For mine, I used a fine X-Acto blade and just worked my way around the perimeter very slowly. I probably made 40 to...

I also considered 3D printing a new casing, but decided to disassemble and use an M5654 battery instead. IMO, the M5654 case is preferable over the M5653 as the terminals are simplified and easier to cut through. Of course the M5653 terminals can be simplified. I'm currently on the hunt for an...

Very, IMO. I'm in the process myself. The most difficult part is paying the cash for the new cells ($$$)... for me, they're expensive!!

Update: I found a supplier in Japan with Sharp LQ9D01A display assemblies and ordered one. Although the part number and photos match, we’ll see whether it’s truly compatible once it arrives. If everything works, I’ll share the source and cost.

I do have an update, I believe I've narrowed the issue down to the upper flex-to-PCB connections that run across the top portion of the LCD. I removed the shielding around the display to expose the PCB and flex connections. When I gently run a Q-tip across those connections, the display...
