    CodeWarrior Logging Package

I'm working on a long in gestation classic Mac OS project, more for my own fun but do hope to release it someday. I want to include a logger that can write out to a window and/or a file and if there's something already out there would love a pointer it. I'm targeting Mac OS 8.5+ (I'm building...

CarbonLib on NewWorld Mac OS 7.6?

Looks like PEF Viewer wasn't available on Macintosh Garden, so I added it today. It will run on just about PowerPC-based Mac and you could use it to open CarbonLib and see what it imports from to determine what other libraries are necessary for it to function. I added screenshots and explainer...

CarbonLib on NewWorld Mac OS 7.6?

One area to look at is what else CarbonLib depends on. I’m not near an old Mac right now, but if you use PEFViewer to check out CarbonLib’s dependencies you might be able to “upgrade” System 7.6 to satisfy enough of the missing dependencies. For instance, it might require Appearance Manager...

Cursor flicker and disappearing on 7100

Yeah, well there was a simple solution to this problem: disable Norton DiskLight, which I typically do by default.

Color LCD Retrofit Kit for SE/30 by ZigZagJoe

I got one these kits and installed it last weekend - it's awesome. Everything fit perfect and the color board stacks right on the Asante MacCon pass-through connector and works like a charm. It's definitely a transformative experience to use my SE/30 this way - I never had a compact color Mac...

Color LCD Retrofit Kit for SE/30 by ZigZagJoe

This kit is amazing and I need to get one. Would it be possible to control the screen’s brightness through software? I need to dive into the kit’s BOM…I wonder if it’d be possible to mimic a PowerBook screen to MacOS and use the Brightness control panel, or write a replacement.

Display issues on SE and SE/30 after recapping

I cleaned off UD8 and UE8 with some IPA and they look a _little_ better. I was able to extend the power and speaker cabling so I can power the motherboard outside of the chassis. What's weird is that UC8 is showing ~12V and C11 just under 5V, and the light on my BlueSCSI is lit up, so power is...

Display issues on SE and SE/30 after recapping

Thank you - I'll try to get in closer with my camera and take some higher-quality macro photos.

Display issues on SE and SE/30 after recapping

Here ya go - to my untrained eye, it looks like a clean job but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Display issues on SE and SE/30 after recapping

Argh…I just got my SE/30 motherboard back from recapping and it’s basically dead. Prior to recapping the machine would boot to the missing floppy icon, but now I can’t even get video. I’m new to this level of restoration so looking similar basic advice on how to test the motherboard and isolate...

Cursor flicker and disappearing on 7100

I've got a 7100/80 and primarily use the PDS video card with additional 2MB VRAM to drive my monitor (an old NEC 1024x768 LCD that works really well for this system). I've got 72MB RAM, running Mac OS 9.1, and using a BlueSCSI v2 for my HD needs. My problem is that the cursor frequently...

    CodeWarrior Arena memory management

Not sure if anyone's interested, but documenting just in case ;) I'm working on a few retrocomputing programming projects for classic Mac OS and am reacquainting myself with the joys of the Memory Manager, and, honestly, having to really worry about memory management again. As I'm designing the...

    SE/30 Recap Gone Wrong

I’m in the Boston area, but found a great place in CT: https://www.logisticsct.com/. I UPS’ed them my motherboard last week. Very reasonably-priced, so recommend looking them up!

    SE/30 Recap Gone Wrong

I got an SE/30 last month and even though it was in very good shape (it basically sat in a climate controlled environment for 25 years) I decided to send it out to get recapped. I’m a novice and didn’t want risk it on this piece of tech. Good luck with yours and i hope you have fun upgrading it!

Project Star Trek in the wild

Let’s start campaign to see if we can get Apple to open source it. We’d have a working OS in a month!
