I need help with replacing the PRAM battery on my clamshell iBook G3!

As per this archived Apple KB article, the iBook G3 does not have a PRAM battery. It uses a PRAM capacitor that stores enough juice to swap out the main battery without losing the contents of the PRAM. Is your iBook G3 main battery dead?

Feasibility of a custom PERCH card?

Was just doing a deep clean of my Beige G3 and that got me to thinking: Since the PERCH slot is just a subset of PCI, what is the feasibility of someone creating a custom PERCH card? Something like a sound, USB, IDE/IDE2SATA/IDE2mSATA or M.2, 10/100 combo adapter (well, obviously not ALL of...

    Open Box iBook G3 900

Update: just got around to setting up a netboot server on one of my other macs. I booted into a 10.4 install and ran system profiler. I am in utter disbelief. cycle count 3. THREE.

    Open Box iBook G3 900

Got an open box/lightly used iBook G3 900MHz over the weekend. Description stated was bought new but was hardly used. Battery was listed as not working but after leaving it plugged in for 3 days it finally started charging (~5 hours of life/almost a brand new battery!) All discs included, even...

Best hardware for setting up NetInstalls?

I have an Xserve3,1 that has 10.6 Server installed but System Image Utility will only work with 10.6+ images for NetInstalls. I don't think I need all of that anyways just for a NetInstall server so would a Macmini2,1 suffice running 10.4 server? I would like to get 10.4/10.5/10.6 ppc/x86...

Melted (?) chip in Power Mac G4 MDD SuperDrive

Pretty sure the MediaTek MT1616E has something to do with the laser pickup. Proprietary though so no datasheet was ever available.

MDD 1.42GHz CPU Board Suddenly Lost 1GHz (False Alarm)

If the CPU speed reporting is bothering you (and you for-sure know nothing else is wrong with your hardware) you can create a script for OpenFirmware to spoof CPU speed that runs automatically on every boot. Create a txt file on the root of your boot partition. Name does not matter, for this...

BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

Don't know if this is a good spot for this (also posted in the Discord) but I'm having an issue with my Desktop BlueSCSI v2-2023.10a with a Pico W. It cannot find an SDCard. Tried a Sandisk and Samsung, FAT/ExFAT, both old but verified genuine and working, overwrite format with SD Card...
