Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Nobody, and certainly not me, has suggested going back to the stock firmware. Please re-read what I wrote before criticising it.

I think we need a good instruction manual, because, like others, I’m getting better results from the Mac84 firmware even though I know that 0dan0’s version really should be capable of better results. I just feel like it probably needs more careful setup. And scanning the film several times at...

What are the chances of having (fairly rapid) auto-exposure that varies through the capture? Set a level on a good frame then try to maintain the same luminance level throughout the capture. Many old cine films have normal bits followed by overexposed bits followed by dark bits followed...

Quick report on V6.9, type C. Won't play back using the unit, although movies are saved to the card. When I press play on the unit it thinks for a second or two and then says Please Restart in bold text. 32GB card, FAT32. Already has 5GB of files saved files on it.

Looks like the overexposed fames have a significant blue shift in the left hand capture.

Are there still the SD card size limits with this new version? Someone mentioned that even a 32GB card would only work if formatted with non-standard bigger block sizes for the previous release.

Mine is definitely a fault. About half way through a film it started juddering, and then subsequently any film I scanned (including those which had previously scanned perfectly) juddered badly too. Something has obviously come adrift inside the machine. Luckily it’s fairly new so I can just...

Scrap that - it's the machine that's broken. Films which scanned perfectly yesterday are now showing this juddering too. Unless there's an easy fix it'll have to go back for a replacement.

EDIT - see following comment. Does anyone know what causes the picture to be taken for each frame? Is it mechanical (linked to the frame advance) or optical (perhaps a sensor on the sprocket hole?). Only I have one film that scans in *really* juddery. It looks OK on the screen while it's...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Like I said (couple of messages back - bottom of the last page for me) I'm using what I *think* is a type C (very recent machine) but with the latest version of your firmware it doesn't record at all. And playback in the machine doesn't work either. It's almost as if, with that firmware, the...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Hi - another newbie here, so sorry if I sound like one! Bought my machine this week from Amazon UK. My serial number starts with a C. The "which firmware do you need?" page said I needed B, but B just gave me a corrupted screen. So I tried C (figuring a newer machine will needed newer...
