AirWriter: AirPrint and AppleTalk for the ImageWriter (ESP32 + TashTalk)

That's a neat idea. As long as there's a way to get a physical connection to the computer (or emulator), the AirWriter could possibly be set up to emulate an ImageWriter I

AirWriter: AirPrint and AppleTalk for the ImageWriter (ESP32 + TashTalk)

My focus has been on the latter, but I'm curious what your use case would be for printing to PDF / TIFF (presumably from a vintage Mac?)

AirWriter: AirPrint and AppleTalk for the ImageWriter (ESP32 + TashTalk)

Hi all! I've been building a little adapter for my ImageWriter II since August, and it's working well enough now that I wanted to share it here. It plugs into the printer's serial port. My iPhone and Macbook see it as a regular AirPrint printer, and my SE/30 sees an AppleTalk ImageWriter in...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

@JDW no battery included since the Maclock already ships with its own 18650. But since it plugs into the charge controller with a molex microblade connector, you could conceivably replace it with a much larger capacity battery if you wanted to! @caver01 I finally had a chance to...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

tl;dw: maybe! it turns out I ordered the wrong connectors. I used JST SH plugs on the board, but the Maclock uses Molex PicoBlade (or clones) which are bigger... so now I need to splice some JST 1.0 to PB 1.25 mm pigtails to plug them in properly. Also, maybe getting a bit ahead of myself, but...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

While I wait for the new revision of the board to ship from China, I made this... With the old design, you need to hand-solder 7 jumper wires to the correct GPIO pins on the Pi, and bend/cut those leads so they don't go into the Waveshare display header on the other side. This new interposer...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

Shipped some fixes in 1.5.0: Fixed No more unclickable dialog when offline. Basilisk II and SheepShaver are built without GTK, so warnings (like "Cannot get DNS address" with no Wi-Fi) go to the journal instead of a modal nobody can click. Existing installs rebuild the emulator once on update...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

Let me know how it goes! If I get a chance, I might try it myself as well. Feel free to also open a PR on the repo if you have success 🙂 Re: cursor — the script installs a transparent cursor to avoid showing two cursors on screen in Basilisk, so if Basilisk is complaining outside the emulator...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

I've been working on a new revision of the board with the following changes: The new design (rev 2026.09) is solderless! Onboard audio: no need for a separate (bulky and expensive) audio amplifier Sourced components: I found a supplier for the rotary encoder and side-mounted switches, so no...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

Nice! I never ended up showing it on-camera, but here's what I ended up with for my USB port (using one of these).

If the gain is too high, you'll likely hear noise. If lowering the gain solves the problem (and sound is still audible) then you should be set. Buttons are configurable, see here in the docs.

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

Congrats on getting up and running! 🙂 Re: brightness control, there's an open issue on the github page that I haven't had a chance to experiment with yet. Re audio noise: I (surprisingly) don't mind it, as I mostly use my Macintosh Mini as a tiny little After Dark screensaver box, which is...

Macintosh Mini - Maclock conversion project

Let me know if it ends up working. I've not tested with Pi OS full at all (and don't personally have a use case where I'd need it) so I might need to update the docs to emphasize using Lite. I have two... one is fine, the other has some backlight bleed. I'm not sure if it's poor QA or damage on...
