True, but how can you efficiently store them and play them back at different resolutions? I certainly won’t live forever, but a good number of my videos are quite long and I have many one hour videos all filmed at 4K resolution. How do we handle those? Video playback on the Internet Archive is...

The MLA problems go back to 2007, when I was active and I first heard the name Tom Levens, who ran it at the time. The single worst disk crash and data loss occurred then (including my posts, which is why I cared), and here are 3 pages of dialog about that, including posts written by yours truly...

I wouldn't think there's a need for an archive of YouTube videos since YouTube is less likely to go down forever, but it would be nice to have the video thumbnails and have those display. Sites like the one below let you download a video's 720p (highest resolution) thumbnail...

The data loss you mention took place late June 2021. All posts from part way into February through most of June that year were lost. Lack of backups were not to blame. It was yet again another "the host provider dropped the ball" server related issue. A significant chunk of discussions...

New PowerBook project series posted, just in time for the tail end of MARCHintosh. 😅 https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/powerbook-repair-series-trackball-repairs-battery-door-removal.5195/

I acquired my first 68K PowerBooks this year (2026), starting with the 180c and 165c. These machines aren't as bad as the LC500 series which fall apart during delivery, but they are pretty bad when it comes to broken stand-offs. Battery leakage is another issue. Then we have Trackball issues...

I’ll send you a PM.

Such "complaining" (especially by a developer) is heartbreaking to hear about. We need great projects and ideas, even if a large number never pan out. It's the talk about those matters that is important because it can encourage others to pick up the torch and see such a project through...

It would come down to how one defines COOL, but I know cool when I see it, and even though I ceased all public posting at the MLA starting in July 2021 and while I don't sneak around in the forum over there either, when I become aware of a significant post about a new product announcement by a...

I’m terribly sorry to hear that. And you can know I feel that from the heart based upon what I wrote earlier in this thread. I’m going be repeating myself yet again, but I don’t want my previous words to be overlooked… Our board is comprised of people “elected“ from the community, who also...

Oh I agree that there is a distinction. I wrote all that only because @NiziMac also lives in Japan, and extreme adherence to RULES (spoken or otherwise) is dominant in the culture here. It was my way of saying, "Let's ease up on beating that Legal Beagle drum." :)

And just when you thought I was done talking... 🤪 Seriously, I really cannot emphasize enough the importance of our Board. I know full well there are people from that other forum lurking in this thread when that forum goes down, so I wish to drive that point home especially for them to...

Striving to obey mankind's endlessly growing rules, laws and regulations is important to avoid trouble in life, but here lies the irony. Had there been no illegitimate BLUE BOXES, Apple would never had existed and you and I wouldn't be talking about logos today as a result: “Experiences like...

@Trash80toG4 I respect you and your option greatly. Please know that. And thank you for making time to express your thoughts in detail here. I read everything you wrote and appreciate your having shared that. My own opinion is that smilies and emojis have so little to do with the problem that...

Great to hear that. And so... What is the technical reason I am not having the same great experience, being hit with reCAPCHA? Because I am located in Japan? As mention in my earlier post here, on the search results page, rather than see any search results, it tells me that there is "unusual...

It's been around since 2002 while Tinker Different was founded in the summer of 2021. A lot of forum veterans (whatever that forum may be) tend to remain on their preferred forum regardless of new forums popping up. So that would go a long way to explain more traffic over there (despite the...

@ClassicHasClass & @Jazzzny When either of you use the latest version on a G4 and when you type MacintoshGarden into the search field, do you get reCAPCHA, and if so, does it hang for you like it does for me on my G4 Cube running 10.4.11 Tiger?

While I'd love to see folks use our vastly more reliable forum instead, I do understand why people like the other forum while also liking ours. It might be good to tell your friends and associates to become member of TinkerDifferent so that when the inevitable happens to that other forum, you...

This guy shows the benefits of realism when it comes to reproductions… Suffice it to say, nobody would want a rainbow X logo on that. We want the genuine Apple logo and authentic decals. It makes the reproduction much more special.

When you use the search field like I did (see my previous post) do you have the same reCAPCHA problem?
