Macintosh 128K, 512K, 512Ke, Plus broken speaker. Replacement advice needed.

I've also found these. They are not exactly a match in terms of dimensions, but would be able to be secured with 1 screw at least. A Mini Speaker 8Ohm/2W. A larger version, almost the size of the original speaker. I might need spacers, but mounting it would be tougher. Is it safe to drill...

Macintosh 128K, 512K, 512Ke, Plus broken speaker. Replacement advice needed.

I have a 512K Macintosh that wouldn't do the bong when you start up. It would otherwise work fine. I checked the Control Panel volume and still didn't hear any sound. I also tried some games where I knew sound was present, but nothing. So in short - no sound at all. Then I plugged in headphones...

Repairing Mac Plus Sony floppy drive not ejecting

I was able to close the loop on this. Got a donor drive and it would eject properly. Step 1: I took the entire eject mechanism from the donor drive and inserted it into my original drive: Turns out it did not eject. Step 2: Measured the voltages the pads for the motor would receive and saw...

To retrobright or not to retrobright?

I have a decision to make: I have this early 1984 Mac 128K that is slightly yellow and I'm not sure if I should retrobright it to match it with the keyboard. What do you think? The keyboard is retrobrighted (it was severely yellowed) But the Mac is actually very little yellowing. I'm on the...

    Marble Madness (Mac 68k)

There were rumors that a pre-production version of Marble Madness exist, but the game was never actually released. Does anyone have any leads or come across such pre-production version? I would love to play that game on Mac. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_Madness

Repairing Mac Plus Sony floppy drive not ejecting

I checked it pin 2 to pin 3 and I'm getting a 775. from pin 1 to pin 2, I'm getting 1384, all others are 0L. I also desoldered the motor to test if the motor would work. I tested with 2x 1.5V AAA batteries and I could see the motor spin. What other things could I test to find the issue?

Repairing Mac Plus Sony floppy drive not ejecting

I have this same issue and I'm looking to diagnose to find the problem. I saw the BV4 photo you posted, and here's how my board looks like: I can't see any issues with the soldering around the BV4 transistor, but what do you think? When I inspected the eject mechanism, OMRON R2DG-31, I did not...

400 K Floppy Drive Repair Components

I decided to fix it by simply replacing the capacitor. I traced the PCB connections on the back in an effort to find a potential better location to install this capacitor, but nothing seemed suitable. Step 1: Removal of the old capacitor. I used the heat gun to melt the glue and tried to scrape...

400 K Floppy Drive Repair Components

Agreed. I picked up this Mac from a local Craigslist posting and it was in amazing condition. When I opened it up I could have sworn I was the first person opening it up since 1984…. Oh well. Thank you for your input and insights about this floppy drive, much appreciated!

400 K Floppy Drive Repair Components

I had a chance to open up the Mac 128K today. I have disassembled the 400K drive once again and had a chance to take a better photo of the capacitor: it shows how the negative lead folds around the PCB and is soldered to the bottom. The positive lead is soldered directly to the pin of the IC...

400 K Floppy Drive Repair Components

I have an interesting contribution to this conversation. I have recently acquired a Macintosh 128K with the 400K drive from January 1984. The drive is a SONY Model OA-D34V. Serial No 155794. The sticker on the side shows January 1984. The version of the small circuit board differs a little bit...
