I've swapped the logic board for a known working one and it worked fine. So, the problem is on the original logic board.
The beep sound on the original logic board was really low, and when the screen appeared it was somewhat garbled and the Mac was slow.
The voltages are ok and I've changed...
Hi!
I've recapped the analog board of my Mac Plus, refluxed all the connectors, that were indeed cracked, and the Mac worked fine for some time.
I don't know if its a coincidence or not, but when I bought an external BlueSCSI and did the diode mod on the logic board to power the BlueSCSI...
Hi @Sideburn !
Thanks for the reply.
I've been ordering the parts I need to recap the logic board and also swap the 7905 voltage regulator for a new one.
I've also ordered the upgraded diodes for the Analog Board in case the logic board is not at fault.
All capacitors have been replaced on...
I agree that this kind of occurrence is rarely a coincidence.
Theoretically the 1N4007 that I used, versus the 1N4001 that I should have used, only differ on the amount of reverse voltage each can handle without breaking (1000v for the 1N4007 and 50V for the 1N4001).
According with the...
I made a video with the behaviour of my Mac Plus.
It starts with a garbled screen, then goes to the desktop pattern and beeps really low, then at the end you can ear the strange sound that I described above. I quickly turned it off because it didn't sound like it was going to end very well...
Unfortunately I don't have another good analog board. But the one I have was totally recaped with the Console5.com kit and was functioning perfectly before the mod.
The problem did not arise right after the mod, it only started to malfunction after a few boots and when I was testing a number of...
I've been testing the machine with half the memory modules (2 mb) and I get the same screens each time.
It doesn't bong.
When I turn on I get this screen while testing the ram:
then I get this screen with a sad mac but cannot read the whole error code:
I've previously done a total recap on the analog board.
The CRT image is totally sharp and stable with no strange noises or ozone smell.
Being the analog board it would be on the switching power supply part of it.
The voltages at the FDD port are correct as before.
But I agree that I can't...
Hi!
Continuing my Macintosh Plus 4Mb total restore, I bough a BlueSCSI2 external module and installed a number of disk images.
It was working like a charm.
Then, I went to the CR1 diode mod, so that I could have TERM power on the SCSI port to avoid the need to power the BlueSCSI2 from a usb...
Thanks! I'm really proud of it. :)
The speaker was dead. I replaced it with another one from a dead analog board and it's fully working now.
I definitely learned a ton about these machines, I even studied the Logic Board schematics. I'm able to repair any Macintosh Plus.
I'm currently...
Major update: Macintosh Plus is working fine! :)
After all it was ok since the beginning. The problem was that since there was no startup bong, and the 4Mb RAM testing takes some seconds, I disconnected it before it ended the RAM test, to prevent "further damage".
After...
Thanks for the suggestion. I've checked FDD connections and they're fine. Also tried to turn it on without the FDD connected, I think It should at least show an error message and the mouse pointer, right?
Hi!
Thanks for the reference.
I think Macintosh Pluses don't have a PRAM. I'm booting it without an RTC battery, as I don't have one and these machines operate normally without one.
I'll buy new Logic Board capacitors and change them in order to rule out that those might be the problem.
I'll...
Hi!
Checked and double checked. The display is as stable and as sharp as it can be and no strange noises. Voltages stable at 5.00 V, 12.11 V and -12.10 V at external FDD port.
Disk ejected, same result. No solder bolbs, everything clean and shinny.
I've checked the clock signal at CPU pin 15...
Hi,
After all, I was getting video, but the brightness potentiometer was on the low setting... my bad... :-\
When it turns on, the voltages at the FDD port are -12,14V +12,10 V and 5,01 V.
There are no strange noises or hissing. It's completely silent.
I don't get the turn on chime, neither...
Hi! Thanks for the reference.
I'll check it, but since after deoxing the J4 cable and connecters I got 5V adjusting half way of the potentiometer and +12 / -12 are also well inside the normal range, I think those diodes are good.
I'll keep posting my results.
[***UPDATED] to reflect that the voltages are correct after applying De-Ox on the J4 to Logic Board Cable.
Hi!
I reflowed the connector on the Logic Board, as it was also presenting some cracks, but it didn't solve the problem.
My Mac passed the page 21 test on the "The Dead Mac Srolls", but...
Hi!
I'm a newbie.
I did a complete overhaul on my Macintosh Plus, including complete disassembly, cleaning, total analog board recap (kit from console5), floppy drive cleaning, lubrication and new eject gear.
Also retro bright mouse, keyboard and case. It looks like new, but....
When I...
