    Poor eMate needs fixing

So yeah, the conductive ink got somewhat conductive (about 400 ohms, which I find a bit high but well), and it worked.

    Poor eMate needs fixing

Turns out there's a cut trace on the membrane. I tried conductive ink but it didn't work, I'll see tomorrow if it just needed to dry out.

    Poor eMate needs fixing

So, one spring broke after I added the washer. I suppose that washer was a bit too large and so didn't push the spring inside the cavity properly… Or maybe it just needed more grease… I added a smaller washer under that one for good measure.

    Poor eMate needs fixing

I got distracted because… because people  Today I cleaned up the bottom case on Dave's stream: Still needs a lot of work, but I made sure it's working. Just the touch screen doesn't yet, but the screen ribbon needs more cleaning due to spillage.

    Poor eMate needs fixing

I acquired a second eMate recently, and this one needs a bit more work than the previous one… First, it needs a good clean and has some rust in places… I'll handle that later, first I had to fix that burnt zener diode that shorts the power input. Likely a protection diode (12V when the input...

Expansion Memory Cards and Speed Limitations above 5MB on the Macintosh Portable

Well yeah then it's logical than the larger RAM, the slower it gets on average, if more of it is in the one waitstate section. It doesn't explain the slowdown for only 4MB though…

Expansion Memory Cards and Speed Limitations above 5MB on the Macintosh Portable

Having more chips on the card increases the current pulled on the bus and likely the access latency, but likely not by that amount, and unless the chipset compensates for this programmatically it shouldn't see anything actually… IIRC these are synchronous, so it's not like they reply when the...

Repairing potentiometer axis with 3D printing

Its working fine btw, though the hammer method is probably not a great idea, if anyone tries heating, let us know!

Repairing potentiometer axis with 3D printing

We have this EMU Graphic Equaliser here that are missing the knobs on the gain pots, and one of the pots actually has a broken axis, and it has an unusual diameter of 4mm. So instead of searching for replacement pots that would probably require me to drill a larger hole in the face plate, I...

PowerBook 1xx kickstand / flippy foot

There's no reason not to have both option if the model is done properly, as I did for the 5xx ones.

PowerBook 1xx kickstand / flippy foot

Maybe both soon… Yes that's what I did for the 5xx ones.

PowerBook 1xx kickstand / flippy foot

Well I was waiting for a proper filament color but it seems Joe's on it. As for the rubber part, I have a TPU that's close. I'd need to split the model to print the two separately like I did for the 5xx feet.

Starting tech meetups in your own area

I think there was a talk about spawning your own event, maybe at VCF, not sure… I'd start by looking at related places/events locally: https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/List_of_Hacker_Spaces https://fablabs.io/labs https://www.makery.info/map-labs/ https://www.repaircafe.org/...
