Dear fellow Mac and Apple enthusiasts! If you've ever tried to use a classic Macintosh as a disk server for your Apple II, you probably know the frustration: The old Mac version "ADT 1.33" is incompatible with the modern ADTPro protocol. If you wanted to use modern ADTPro features, you were...

Just recapped a Turbo Board (at least the 47/16v parts)

At least for the NeXT Stations I have seen almost no leaky caps. Only one Station Turbo showed some and I recapped them. Usually it is enough to replace the 47 / 16 Caps AFAIK. Having plenty of those handy is anyways advised :)

This is really cool! I just tested it with my SE/30 and a Windows 11 machine on the other side. It connected reliably as soon as I swapped out the BMOW ROM Simm and used an original SE/30 ROM instead. On my Mac I could not use the serial to USB adapter, that's why I switched to Windows. Thank...

Thanks for sharing this interesting finding! I tried out bridging the two pads on my Quadra 800 and it reported running at 40MHz. Unfortunately it was super unstable. Lots of Errors like number 11 and 1 and crashes. So, I removed the solder blob again for the time being as I was not ready for...

Another observation regarding IGMP Snooping on UniFi switches with my Quadra 700 with System 7.1: IGMP Snooping on - No AppleTalk - AFP via TCP works with AppleShare Client 3.7.4 and Open Transport 1.1.2 IGMP Snooping off - AppleTalk works with AppleShare Workstation 3.6.5 - System crashes on...

Write performance has improved a lot - not sure which version was present before though as I hadn't updated for some time. But thought anyways it's worth sharing. BlueSCSI v2 with Pico1 (left is with the latest update, on the right is the state before)

Macintosh Garden works great on Netscape 2 and 3 and you should be able to download what you need from there. I use them with System 7.1 from my Quadra 700, IIci and SE/30. Should be just great on a Quadra 950. I‘m still looking into building a modern(ish) classic Mac browser for System 7.1/7.5...

Printed them again in Bambu Lab Bone White Matte PLA

Just printed those: https://web.archive.org/web/20200507223308/www.synack.net/~bbraun/mac3d/ They look good (I know, I know, wrong color) and fit snug

I was just working on my faulty Quadra 800. It didn't start, made a strange sound, blew a cap and then.. silence... To even be able to test it after exchanging the Cap (C40) with a 22µf 20V Tantalum cap, I dug into a PowerMac 8500 and a PowerMac 8100. I found out: the PSU from the 8500 has a...

Another finding. I think C40 is gone Anybody knows what it's there for? Maybe something related to the Power supply?

I have a Quadra 800 here newly added to the collection. When I plug the power cable in, the PSU makes some light clicks and smells. So, I quickly unplugged it again. As I have some of those machines here, too... Does anyone know if I can reuse the PPC 8500 or 8100 PSU for it? The 800s PSU looks...

My Quadra 700 VRAM was fully upgraded now :)

Thanks for the quick check @eric I really appreciate it :) My test on SCSI director showed, that it seems to operate at around the maximum possible speed the SCSI bus in the Quadra can do. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Just did an update of my BlueSCSI v2 in my Quadra 700 to v2025.07.07 Sadly Speedometer 3.23 disk rating went down from 2.28 to 1.95 Is there something I have to do to get a better performance again or is this speed reduction within expectations?

Opened the monitor a bit and carefully switched it on without connecting it to a video signal. Green light stays on for ~15 seconds and then switches off. No high voltage audible. A fishy stench is noticeable and it is clearly coming from the power supply. Don't have time to do it now, but it...

Ah, I found something. It seems not to be helpful to install just two VRAM Simms when targeting 640x480 resolution. So, I will extend it fully to 2MB. https://support.apple.com/en-us/112219

Hi all, I just got my first Quadra 700. It has no VRAM Simms installed so probably defaulting to 512k(?) VRAM. I want to extend that to get true color on my 13" RGB Monitor. Would it work to install just 2x256k VRAM Simms? Do they even have to be installed in pairs? Or should I go full throttle...

Really well done @jmacz Thanks for sharing this great model :)
